Spotify reveals top Chinese New Year songs and curated its own CNY playlists

Spotify tends to make playlists for special occasions, and this time it’s no different. For 2016’s Chinese New Year, Spotify whipped up its very own playlist aptly named, “Year of the Monkey”. It has also unveiled the top ten songs that people frequently picked for their Chinese New Year playlists across the world.

As you might imagine, topping the lists are festive classics such as “大地回春”, “恭喜恭喜”, and “財神到”. I can’t, for the life of me, read Chinese, but I’ll take Spotify’s word for it. Here are the whole list of the top ten most popular songs found in many Chinese New Year playlists worldwide:

  1. “大地回春”
  2. “恭喜恭喜”
  3. “財神到”
  4. “迎春花”
  5. “賀新年”
  6. “恭喜發財”
  7. “春天來了”
  8. “祝福你”
  9. “小拜年”
  10. “新年喜洋洋”

Meanwhile, Spotify proper has its in-house Asian music experts who’ve curated their own Chinese New Year playlist called “Year of the Monkey”, as mentioned earlier. This list features a more international mix, with Asian artists like Hyuna and Ming Bridges, as well as international ones like Kylie Minogue, Miley Cyrus, and Sam Smith:

  2. Hyuna, Ji Dam Yuk — “Ice Ice”
  3. EXO — “Sing For You”
  4. Selena Gomez — “Hands To Myself”
