Facebook Pages Shop Section

Recently on May 31st, 2016, Facebook announced the rollout of its Shop Section for Facebook Pages across Southeast Asia, which includes Malaysia. This new feature is designed to provide a new way for businesses to prominently feature and showcase the products they’re selling in a “more appealing way” — one of the most important aspects of any business. Facebook Page’s Shop Section allows for fans and followers to easily browse and discover products that are available from the Pages they ‘Liked’ and care about. Some of you may have already seen this feature appearing on a few of your Liked Pages.

The key features of Shop Section are ‘Merchandising’, ‘Purchase’, ‘Subscribe’, and ‘Advertising’. Merchandising lets businesses showcase their products on sale through the ‘Featured Products’ section. Purchase is a private message (P.M.) button next to the viewed product to let potential customers to P.M. the administrator to ask questions about the product and arrange a purchase. The Subscribe button is exactly as described — it lets folks subscribe to a particular Shop Section to get new product updates and other business notifications right on their Facebook app. Advertising though, is instead aimed at businesses where they can easily create an advertisement to push their product to Facebook users.

Nadia Tan, Facebook’s head of small and medium businesses (SMB) for Southeast Asia, said, “Many small businesses in Malaysia currently use Facebook Pages to run their businesses by using posts and messages to share products with the people who follow them. With the Shop Section being rolled out in Malaysia, we are greatly improving this experience by allowing businesses to feature their products in a more visually-appealing way, and this also enables people to buy those products through messaging.” Tan also noted that Facebook is committed particularly in helping small businesses to better connect with the 18 million Facebook users in Malaysia, and consequently grow their businesses.

One of the early adopters of Shop Section that Facebook provided is from Azri Walter, the proprietor of Walter Barbershop in Bangi, which has already set-up their own Shop Section to showcase some of their hair products. Walter notes, “Since Walter Barbershop started using the Facebook Shop feature, we saw a gradual increase in sales. Products became more noticeable and [that has] attracted customers to check our Page.”
