Although the UberEATS app is not expected to arrive here anytime soon (if it does), there’s one more feature that just might. Uber’s new Family Profiles is already being tested in 3 cities in the US and, like its Business Profile, should provide for a great option for current riders to have a different account for the rides taken.

Family Profile was something that Uber customers have frequently asked and so, it has now been incorporated into the app itself. The feature has been launched in Atlanta, Dallas, and Phoenix, and it lets up to 10 riders to share one single payment method, in a safe yet easy manner. Even though it’s called Family Profiles, members of the family are not the only ones who can benefit from it. Uber allows anyone, including loved ones, friends, or even coworkers just to name a few, to be added to the profile. This might make the Business profile redundant for small businesses but nevertheless, the option of having these types of profiles do come in handy for those who need them.

When this feature does become available, Uber customers will be able to get their accounts and their Family Profiles setup with minimal effort. Riders will be able to see the option to ‘Add a Family Profile’ under the Uber app settings; just where the Personal and Business profiles are located. These users will be able to add contacts to the Family Profile, presumably members of the family, and these contacts will then be invited to join the group. Just as soon the invitees accept, they will become a member of the group and they will be able to start requesting for rides using their own phones. But, instead of using/adding a credit/debit card, or even cash for their rides, members will be able to use ‘Family Profile’ as the payment method. These charges will then be deducted from the payment cards that the Family Profile owner has setup. Just like a regular Uber ride, the owners will also get a receipt after every ride.

For those of us who have been requesting for this feature, we feel the wait may not be as long as it was for the Business profile. This is because Family Profiles will have a better and wider uptake as it can be done by regular riders; instead of having to rely on companies to introduce policies and regulations before the implementation of a Business Profile within the organisation.
