Not long since Facebook copied FriendFeed to offer a Like button, there have been numerous requests for a Dislike button. Facebook figured that by just adding a Dislike button, it would be too binary, and after years of research, it has settled on the fact that humankind only has a total of six reactions to social networking posts. With that, the social networking giant copied took inspiration from Path to now roll out Facebook Reactions globally.

Facebook Reactions is said to be in testing for a year now, in seven countries, and the feedback has been generally positive. The “global research” Facebook has done includes focus groups and surveys to determine the most popular reactions people would usually use the most. Not only that, Facebook also “looked” at how we are commenting on posts (like “LOL” or “Love!”) and took inspiration from the top emoticons, emojis, and stickers people use to react to posts.

While Facebook rolled it out globally just today, it may take another few days for it to be disseminated to our Facebook on Android, iOS, and on the web. You won’t miss it once it shows up. To select other reactions, simply hover the mouse cursor or tap-and-hold over/on the Like button.
