Maxis is now offering free trials to, not one, or two, but four subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) services. They are Eros Now, Hopster, iflix, and Viu. All of them enjoy a 60-day free trial, except Eros Now which only gets 30 days. After the trial ends, each of these video streaming services will cost RM10 per month to subscribe. These new offers are available for Hotlink prepaid customers too, except Hopster.

iflix needs no introduction. Viu was recently launched and it serves up Korean TV shows fresh, available to stream within 24 hours of the initial broadcast in South Korea. Eros Now specializes in Bollywood and Kollywood content. And finally, Hopster is a learning video streaming service for kids.

Depending on the service, you can either access them directly when on a Hotlink/Maxis cellular connection, or after signing up for an account. The following are the direct links:

The RM10 monthly subscription is done by carrier billing, and it’s important to note that once the free trial ends, the paid subscription is automatically renewed. You will receive an SMS reminder prior to being charged.

While I’m unfamiliar with Eros Now and Hopster, both iflix’s and Viu’s monthly subscriptions are also at RM10 per month without Maxis. What this means is, you’re not getting any discounts from Maxis, so the only two perks you’ll enjoy are carrier billing and the two-month free trial.

There is also no free data for your subscription, so streaming will still use up your data quota if you’re not careful. Maxis is also not bundling any of these SVOD services with its MaxisONE and/or MaxisONE Home plans, but who’s to say that won’t change in the future?
