If there is such a thing as a quadfecta, most of the time we can correctly predict the order of Malaysian telcos announcing their new flagship smartphone offers. Following Maxis, Celcom, and Digi, U Mobile will also be selling the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge at U Mobile Stores nationwide from March 18th 2016 onwards. The first 100 buyers of the phone bundled with U Mobile plans will also get a free Samsung Gear VR, worth RM459.
The news came through a short Facebook post by U Mobile with no details on the plans it’ll be bundling with the S7 edge. It’s safe to assume that U Mobile will bundle the S7 edge with its Ultimate Device Plan (RM65/month for 3GB, RM95/month for 5GB, and RM135/month for 6GB), just like the rest of its recent non-iPhone offerings. It shouldn’t be long until U Mobile reveals the plans, since it’ll be selling the phone tomorrow.
100 Gear VRs seem like a very small number. U Mobile did not specify which of its outlets will be giving away this gift; whether the 100 units are spread out throughout its stores nationwide, or there will be 100 units at each major U Mobile outlet. We also don’t know whether or not the first 100 online buyers will get the Gear VR.
There is one other useful information in the post though. Existing U Mobile customers who sign up tomorrow for a new Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, will each receive a complimentary one-year U Care Plus 8 plan. It is an insurance coverage for your mobile device, that covers water and other accidental damages, up to a maximum of RM1,000.
